What is Nano-technology?

Nano-technology is the study and use of structure between 1 to 100 nonometers. To give an idea of how small is that, a human hair is about 60,000 nanometers in diameter and a sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick.

Nano-technology allows scienties to work on the scale of molecules to create and explore the biological and material worlds. By manipulating the individual atoms and molecules, scientists can create system that can remove contaminants pollutants from the air that human eye cannot see.

What is Photo-catalyst ?

Photo-catalyst facilitates reactions by absorbing light. When a Photo-catalyst Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) capture ultraviolet light (UV Light) either from the sun or a fluorescent light, it forms 2 types of activated oxygen (Hydroxyl Radical and Super Oxide) from water or oxygen in the air. This process is similar to photpsynthesis, in which chlorophyll capture sunlight to ture water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. The activate oxygen formed is strong enough to oxidize and decompose organic materials and gases with smell and in the same time kill bacteria.

What is Nano-Silver?

Silver has been used for the treatment of medical ailments for over 100 years due to its natural anti-bacterial and antifungal properties. The Nano-Silver particles typically measure <10nm. They have extremely large relative surface area, increasing their contact with bacteria or fungi and vastly improving its bacterial and fungicidal effectiveness.

The Nano-Silver when in contact with bacteria and fungus will adversely affect cellular metabolism and inhibit cell growth. The Nano-Silver suppresses respiration , basal metabolism of electron transfer system and transport of substrate in the microbial cell membrane. The Nano-Silver inhibits multiplication and growth of those bacteria and fungi which cause infection, odor, itchiness and sores.

This uses light tp react with a catalyst resulting in oxidation. This is found to be effective in destroying mould, mildew, bacteria, fungi, dust mites and odor. This technology is produced with an Ozone/UV/Lamp set in a variety of combinations, when this type of photo-catalysis is combined with the natural humidity in indoor air it creates hydroxyl radicals and super oxide ions that are effective in combating bacteria, fungi and VOCz. This method is also a pro-active approach that goes to the source for treatment.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arresting) Fitter

This is the most widely known method for purifying air. Depending on the fitter size, it can clean up to 99.9% of particulate in the air with proper ventilation. They are not effective in treating mould, mildew, bacteria and other fungi.

Electrostatic Filtration

Another filtration system with a negatively charged surface is used to attract particulate. In comparison to most HEPA systems, it is more effective in trapping smaller micron particulate and effective in cleaning smoke from the air
Low levels of ozone may be produced which can neutralize most mould, mildew, bacteria and other fungi that comes in contact with the fitter.

UV germicidal Lamps

Commonly used for disinfecting purpose. This technology is effective in sterilizing air and surface that come in contact with the UV light. UV has been proven in both air and water applications to inactive bacteria and viruses to prevent tham from reproducing. But we have to be careful when in use of UV Germicidal Lamp because certain wavelength of UV lights are harmful to human skin.

Ozone

Ozone is a very powerful oxidizer that will neutralize odor, mould, mildew, bacteria and other fungi. This technology is commonly used in flood and fire restoration.
Ozone is found to be effective because it works on the problem at the source and air does not have to be pulled through the unit for treatment. Ozone has its limitations because it creates an unpleasant odor and it area of coverage is limited. The effect by ozone in spaces with large surface area is not too effective.

Ionizer

Uses a negatively charged surface to produce and expel an abundance of negative ions and cause suspended to particles to cling to walls, floors and other surfaces. Most ionizers area effective in settling dust and particulate out of breathing space.
